Omega Seamaster “Cosmic 2000”

This is a Circa 1972 Omega Seamaster “Cosmic 2000”. The Cosmic line was introduced in the late 60’s, with the 2000 model here being produced from 72-75. It features an automatic winding movement, which would shortly be phased out on watches of this size by the incoming quartz crisis. The case appears to be unpolished, with light wear commensurate with its age. The mineral crystal is unmarred and unchipped, clearly displaying the original dial, hands, and lume plots.

Overview:

  • The Seamaster is one of longest standing watches in the Omega lineup. The final example of the Cosmic referenced here was produced for 3 years in various sizes. The case of these watches affirms the ethos of this line. It’s not simply a pretty dress watch; it was a tool designed to be worn and used in any condition or environment. There’s a reason the Seamaster is still the choice of professionals in both the military and executive field.

This Watch

  • This watch is a rarity amongst smaller sized pieces. The automatic movement was soon to be wound down on watches of this size, and the 684 on this reference was no exception. The case is strong and unpolished, and the mineral crystal (much preferred over plexiglass) has not glazed over or cracked. The green leather strap is not Omega original but complements the watch perfectly. All functions work as original, and the date turns over correctly.
